The Governor, in his budget address on July 1, 2010, announced that adult
education is level funded for FY11! The Governor indicated that there was
$26.78 million in the budget for adult education. He includes Career and
Technical Education (CTE - $9.2 million) in that figure so adult
education's share is $17.6 million--the same as last year. The total amount
meets the maintenance of effort requirement to qualify for $48 million in
federal dollars for the two programs.

IACEA - The Voice of Adult Education in Illinois provides
leadership, representation and advocacy for adult education and
literacy practitioners in order to advance, unify and
professionalize the field. That is our
mission, and we work hard to assure that we are fulfilling that
mission as we conduct the activities of our association.
In the area of legislative advocacy, we have a commitee composed
of the chair(s), the three presidents - immediate past, current,
and elect, and three members appointed by the chair(s).
Each Division selects a representative to this committee, as
well. In addition to this constitutionally defined
membership, every board member and committe chair, as well as any
IACEA member, who are interested are invited to participate with
this committee on any activites that promote the enterprise of
adult education to our communities and our state and national
legislative bodies. Our Awareness Day chair and committee also work
hand in hand with the Legislative Committee to make sure that our
message is clear -
Adult Education and Literacy Works!
